NOTES:

  • Do not buy an internet plan at the airport, ask at your hotel which plan is best for your needs.
  • In more touristy places like Bali and Lombok, be aware of the possibility of being a victim of theft crimes carried out by motorcyclists, particularly when walking on the side of the road.
  • Do not accept help from strangers to take you to destinations, or invite you to show temples, etc.
  • Never pay anything upfront.
  • Try to negotiate prices on everything you buy.
  • Search the internet for entrance fees to temples and attractions before you go.
  • If you rent a motorbike, take a picture of everything (tires, crashes, deposit, etc.), to avoid being held responsible for something and don’t do it if you don’t have an international driving license and motor vehicle insurance.
  • If you take a bus, ask locals for the amount paid to make sure you won’t pay more.Uber, Grab, GoJek are controlled by the transport mafia all over the country (except Jakarta, where you can and should activate these apps whenever you need to get around). Prices are high.
